"ECAC Hockey team preview: Harvard (with video)" by Parting Schotts

In the sixth installment of my look at the other ECAC Hockey teams, here is my preview of Harvard.

Coach: Ted Donato (10th season, 126-139-35).

2012-13 record: 10-19-3 (6-14-2 ECACH).

Key returning players: Sophomore forwards Jimmy Vesey (11-7-18) and Brian Hart (5-13-18), junior forward Tommy O’Regan (3-12-15) and senior goalie Raphael Girard (8-18-3, 3.01 GAA).

New players: Forwards Luke Esposito, Alexander Kerfoot, Sean Malone, Tyler Moy, Devin Tringale and Phil Zielonka; defensemen Clay Anderson, Kevin Guiltinan and Victor Newell.

Outlook: For the first time since the formation of the ECAC, Harvard finished in last place. The team was rocked by the academic cheating scandal last fall, losing four players for the season. Those players — junior defensemen Max Everson, Patrick McNally and Mark Luzar and junior goalie Stephen Michalek — have been reinstated. Vesey is a good player, but will need help. The website SB Nation calls Harvard’s recruiting class the best of the 12 ECACH teams. How all that talent translates on the ice will determine if the Crimson’s last-place finish was a fluke.

Predicted finish: Coaches: sixth. Media: 10th. Me: 12th.
