Tiger baseball team hands Ole Miss first loss | WREG.com ...

Oxford, MS-Keaton Aldridge had three hits and scored two runs as Memphis (5-3) handed No. 8 Ole Miss (7-1) its first loss with a 4-3 victory Tuesday at Oxford-University Stadium.

The Memphis bullpen continued a hot start as five relievers combined for 4.1 innings without allowing a hit. The Tiger bullpen walked five batters, but countered with five strikeouts to post scoreless innings. Conner Porter picked up his first win as a Tiger as he pitched a scoreless seventh inning andJonathan Van Eaton closed the door in the ninth for his 10th career save, second of 2013.

With the bases loaded and two out and the game tied 3-3, Ole Miss committed their sixth error of the game allowing the go-ahead run to score. Michael Sillymanhit a high-hopper to shortstop, but the throw was in the dirt allowing Jake Little to score on the play.

Little was one of two Tigers with multiple hits in the game joining Aldridge who had three hits. Little and Aldridge hit sixth and seventh in the lineup and combined to go 5-for-8 with three runs scored in the contest.

Starter Michael Wills pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in the no decision. He walked three and struck out two, facing 21 batters.

With the win, Memphis posts its sixth-straight win over SEC competition dating back to the 2012 season. The win at Ole Miss is the first for the Tigers in Oxford, Miss., since 2003. Memphis has won back-to-back games in the series for the first time since the second game of the 1994 series and the first of two meetings in 1995.

Memphis returns to FedExPark to take on UL-Monroe in a three-game series beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
