ABBY'S STORY: A Little Girl With Big Hopes | WHOTV.com

The Faber’s youngest, Abby, is always on the move which is their biggest challenge.

Steve Faber laughs as he says, “There’s the little girl in the walker you hear her coming ‘click click click’.”

Abby’s tiny feet are taking the family on a journey. The journey began when Abby was born 10 weeks early with a long list of health problems. When Abby turned 3 years old, doctors diagnosed her with cerebral palsy, a disability that affects Abby’s ability to walk.

“Since cerebral palsy is caused by a brain injury there is no cure for it,” says Jenny Faber.

Steve and Jenny say they aren’t looking for cure but an opportunity to increase their daughter’s quality of life. Next week, Abby will undergo surgery in Minnesota to help her walk better.

Jenny says, “It’s a very successful surgery so hopefully this will make things easier.”

It’s a step in the right direction but Abby’s recovery requires six weeks of rehabilitation in Minnesota. Steve and jenny will put their jobs on hold while they trade off staying at the hospital.

Sunday, friends of the family will host a silent auction to help cover medical and travel expenses.

The benefit will take place from 5-8pm at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny and is open to the public.
