Virginia Beach, Va. – Congress is back in session after a week off and with just four days before massive budget cuts are set to hit.

Today, Virginia Beach Congressmen are speaking out on what they believe needs to be done.

NewsChannel 3′s Laurie Simmons spoke with them, and what did they have to say?

It was a packed house at the Westin today, with many people wondering, is this really going to happen? Are all these jobs at risk? Is there anything in the works to save our region?

Sadly, the answers were not what people wanted to hear. Congressmen Forbes, Congressman Rigell, and Congressman Wittman all agree that more than likely, no deal will be reached before Friday – and sequestration will indeed go into effect.

They hope that by passing the March 1 mark and seeing the impacts, that more lawmakers will come to the table and act to stop it.

These republicans say they have passed several bills to stop sequestration in the past, but NewsChannel 3 had to ask if they felt they had truly done enough to stop the impacts to this region.

Congressman Scott, the only local democrat in the Hampton Roads Congressional Delegation, was invited to be at today’s event as well – but he is in California right now.

Congressman Forbes just introduced a bill this morning that would stop sequestration from cutting any money from the military, with no strings attached – but it remains to be seen if both houses will agree to that without other spending cuts to be put in its place.

We’ll have more coming up on the countdown to sequestration, coming up First at Four.
